The newly-released (September) comprehensive, gloriously illustrated
two-volume encyclopedia titled "Flora" provides information about the
origins of every genus and species listed. However, because the entries were
written by so many different people (including me!), the level of detail
concerning native origins can be variable.

It's a neat book (if I may say so myself), released by our very own Timber
Press here in Portland, Oregon. But watch that you're getting the Timber
version: there seems to be a cheaper one available at COSTCO that is
actually an Australian edition, missing all the fascinating US introductory
material.
