Re: Fran...Help for "weird things happening to your computer"

Fran,

I work on both Windows and mac platforms.  I use external drives to store and backup all of my data and pic files.  This reduces problems causing loss of important files when using software to fix problems and to run defragmentation software. Always have a daily plan to backup data files.  Recovering from a hard drive meltdown is a nasty, time consuming, and inconvenient experience.

My wife's G4 was running OS 9 and 10.3 when Norton detected a problem and I attempted to fix it. The result was that the OS 9 would not boot forcing me to reformat the drive.  I just installed OS 10.3 rather than do an install from the original CDs. OS 10.3 is stable and you should have no problem with the look and feel of the new OS.  There is a problem in that some older software do not have versions that will work in OS 10.3 and this may force you to develop workarounds.

Yes, but it was the Mac that I had to bring in to the shop. I was told it was full of garbage. I do my Quark work om OS 9 on it so that may be the reason and I've just added OS X. However, I still love the PC and Word. The icon bar on the bottom of the screen is a big improvement over the Mac 9 desktop set up. Does Mac X have something like that?
