Re: Radio?
Hi, Jeff... this is Denise Cowie in Philadelphia.
Are you interested in topics less tangible than a book or a garden tool? How
about a web site that could be very helpful for anyone planning a vacation
to the Lower 48 -- or even for anyone planning to attend the Philadelphia
Flower Show (March 2-9) who might want to check out a few public gardens during
their visit? (It's still winter then, of course, but we have some great
"chill-chaser" gardens, such as Longwood's many conservatories -- including its
brand-new indoor children's garden -- and Morris Arboretum's exquisite
Victorian Fernery.)
As site coordinator, I'm interested in spreading the word about the
vacation-planning potential of _www.greaterphiladelphiagardens.org_
(http://www.greaterphiladelphiagardens.org) , an umbrella site for more than two dozen public
gardens in the southeast-Pennsylvania/northern Delaware/southern-New Jersey
region.
Background: It was designed to appeal to both local gardeners (with news,
events, interviews etc) and to potential visitors from out of the region. It
helps travelers by giving a brief history of horticulture in this area, from
William Penn and the Quaker tradition, to the du Pont
estates-turned-public-gardens, up to new pleasure gardens like Chanticleer. It offers a concise
description and photos of these gardens (with links to their individual web sites
for nitty-gritty information such as directions, times, fees etc.), plus a map
showing the gardens' geographic relationship to each other, and some
suggested itineraries. (You probably know that Nemours, one of the du Pont estates
in Delaware, is planning to reopen in Spring 2008 after being closed for
major refurbishment.)
Just a thought. Are you planning to speak at the flower show this year?
Denise
