house plant/houseplant


I prefer "houseplant" as one word, but does this mean it's also proper to  
say "gardenplant?" Or "hangingbasketplant?" English is, after all, a Germanic  
language and the Germans love nothing more than to make new long words by 
gluing  shorter words together, end-to-end. Nein?
