Re: GWL, The End as we know it

Since I follow the media business closely, this didn't strike me as anything I hadn't read dozens of times before, but my question always is: How can I make a living this suggested way?.

Most of us are writers not only because we enjoy it -- and, presumably, have a bit of talent in that direction -- but also to make money. Newspapers and other traditional media aren't making money. Book publishers are having problems, too. So we try something new and daring. Lots of those experiments are failing, too.

I know you're doing fine, Doug, but most of us don't have the energy or interest to be entrepreneurial in this brave new  world. And most of the new outlets pay worse than the "tired old" ones, and that's pretty sad.

Don't know how many of you read Michael Arrington's take on the new
publishing model but it's worth a read - to understand what's coming down
the pipe at you now and in the immediate future.  I tracked some of the blog
comments and they're well worth the read as well in the conversations
between folks at Suite101 etc.
