Re: Doug's Fear Quotient

How about another timely nostrum: The only thing we have to fear is fear
itself!

Count me among the ranks of the re-invented. Lots of changes this year,
not all of them pleasant.

I think an important point to keep in mind is that all of these
techno-inventions are various types of tools. I prefer to let the early
adapters work the bugs out of things and determine whether something is a
dud, so that I don't have to. My life is getting shorter by the minute
and I like to spend each breath doing things that have meaning to me --
such as writing about gardens, coaching gardeners, or schmoozing with
you-all.

This list-serv is a great tool for all of us to visit with one another,
bounce ideas around -- and share publishing paranoia. I like it, so I use
it. Right now, I'm in the testing phase for Facebook and don't much care
for the results so far, which have been a geometric increase in spam.
Thank goodness for that other e-mail address! So far I don't like that,
but I don't know enough about how to use Facebook to say, "I quit."

We are all so different and trying to do so many different things that I
think it's a mistake to believe in a one-size-fits-all solution. There is
no magic bullet.

Being a late adapter saves me time, energy, money, and frustration, so
I'll continue in that mode until I see a good reason to do otherwise. I
don't think that puts me "behind" or makes me a techno-phobe.

Whatever the publishing business turns into, I'll examine it and decide
at each turn what I want to do. Kirk is absolutely correct in saying that
all selling is relationship selling. As long as you are building those
relationships, does it really matter what tools you choose?

Merry Christmas everyone,
Lois
