Re: GWA Awards program

I'll answer what I can of your questions and musings.

C.L.: So far there are 5 ways to enter electronic works. What other categories would you suggest we expand to? Also, if you enter what's obviously the wrong category, the committee gets in touch with you aobut possibly changing it.

Dan et al: It would be difficult to judge 45-minute speaking videos. But if there's an interest, send me a proposal and I'll pass it along.

Dee: I'm assuming 3 printed copies of the blog, if it's being entered in the writing category. I don't see where screen grabs would help there. For photography, a color screen grab would be necessary. And I'd be sure to include the URL on all pages you submit. But go on and enter whichever way you've started and I'll make sure that no one is penalized. You're right -- that's too vague and the GWA office is closed till Monday so I can't talk it over with anyone there.

Amy: A very interesting idea. I don't know how much of an ad, or series of ads, we could buy for the amount of money we spend on the awards program. But the GWA board is the one to consider this idea. Publishers tend to like winning awards -- we get lots of books entered by publishers year after years, so I'd say it matters to them. On the couple of occasions I've won an award, I've been pleased. I don't know that it's helped my career at all, but maybe others can speak to that.

P.S.
Can anyone tell me why Yahoo mail adds those awful ?? in these e-mails? I'm using html, not plain text.
