This might not suit your purposes, but I have an iPod Touch, which does
almost everything an iPhone does except send you a bill every month. It is
Wi-Fi connected rather than telecom. Strictly speaking it is not a phone,
but it does do Skype, both audio and video, and accepts most iPhone apps. So
I have email and Internet, Pandora and Iheartradio and push news feeds from
several sources,C-SPAN, Kindle (I carry my book with me wherever I go) and
eBooks, two pretty decent cameras and a couple of photo apps, Red Laser (a
cool app, especially now that many plant tags have those funny symbols),
weather, and more. And of course it has tons of music I've put on it. The
obvious drawback is that you can't use it just anywhere. You need a Wi-Fi
source, but those are increasingly available, even McDonalds, and my router
covers me all through my garden.
