Please let us know what happens, Lorraine. It's hard to tackle something like this over holidays, a time in which staff editors are usually quite distracted. But it's right for you to be paid for having your work reprinted without permission. Stick with it until that happens!

Here's where this stands...

Judy, your response is right on target. Meeting with his writers is out of character for this editor, especially free lancers not on the payroll and not under contract. My communication with him over the years has been 99% electronic AND I really try to be low maintenance. He's extremely busy and to ask for a meeting would have been a mistake. 

I addressed my "issue" via an email where I was covering other routine compensation matters. One disadvantage to not having a face to face talk is now I have to wait for an answer whereas a personal conversation would have forced some kind of immediate response. And of course he "heard" my concern in the frame of mind he was in which was not necessarily the non-confrontational tone of voice in which I would have delivered it, a second disadvantage. 

We'll see what happens next. Nothing has seemed to change - so far.  But the wheels of this organization turn ever so slowly.
