Re: Clivia Advice Needed


Hi Lois,

Clivas grow best when they're pot bound.  I let mine stay where it is until all I can see are roots on the top of the pot (no soil).  Forming offsets is normal for older plants and not a sign of distress.  You can separate or not, depending on whether you'd like to keep your plant as a single stem specimen or grow it as a clump.  I wouldn't divide the offset until after the next round of bloom.  My Clivia continues to flower, even with two offsets in the pot.

You will eventually have to repot, but probably not until the pot cracks under pressure from its contents!
