RE: [GWL]: FW: Trademarks, copyrights discussion

I have a number of trademarks and I would never do it on my own.  It is
relatively expensive, and I recommend an attorney who specializes in trade
marks and copyright.  I suspect the GWAA attorney can help if you are member
of GWAA.  You need someone who can properly search to see if anyone else has
the mark or has applied for the mark.  If there is someone else in the
picture, there are a number of tactics to chose from and I would want a good
attorney to help.  The only reasons to have a trademark in my view is
because you intend to make money from the process in the long term.  In my
case, my trademark process meant I had to take on Jerry Baker's company and
Fiskars.  I really needed a good attorney to win those little clashes.

Lon, that topic is of particular interest to me.  Can you tell us
where the discussion came from?

And to others in the group -- has anyone filed their own trademark?
Do you truly need an attorney or can you do it yourself?  Any advice
for the do it yourselfer?
