Garden Literature celebrates 10th year
Dear GWL members,
Garden Literature, an annual index of magazine articles about plants and
gardens, is now in its tenth year, no small feat in a decade that has
seen many magazines come and go.
To mark this achievement we have prepared a press release plus some FAQs
about what Garden Literature is. If you can help spread the word by
writing about Garden Literature or by forwarding the information to
someone you know who might benefit from using such an index, it would be
much appreciated.
Indexes are essential reference tools, but too few people know about
them. Some say the internet is enough, but it's really not. Others say
they use a magazine's own index, but not all magazines have indexes
(some of the magazines in Garden Literature do not have their own).
Besides, you can waste a lot of time bouncing from index to index,
especially if you don't know or can't remember which magazine published
an article you are looking for. There are many good reasons for using
indexes and helping to support them.
A press release is printed below sans graphics and formatting. I can
send you "prettier" versions as attachments if you email me a request.
And if you have questions, don't hesitate to ask!
Thank you very much.
Sincerely,
Sally Williams

GARDEN LITERATURE PRESS CELEBRATES 10TH YEAR
Ten years ago, when librarian and home gardener Sally Williams was
increasingly frustrated trying to locate articles she had seen in
gardening magazines, she decided to compile and publish an index to
magazine articles herself. As a result, GARDEN LITERATURE: An Index to
Periodical Articles and Book Reviews was born and has been published
annually to great critical claim ever since.
GARDEN LITERATURE is an annotated listing by author and subject of
articles published in a dozen of the leading gardening magazines
published in the U.S. and U.K. Want to know what the award-winning
plants are? Consult GARDEN LITERATURE. Whatever your gardening interest,
whether childrens gardens, under-used plants, ecological gardening,
hazardous trees, great gardens to visit, or how to grow lemongrass,
GARDEN LITERATURE is where to start your search. You will also find
reviews of books you are considering buying or new ones by your favorite
authors.
Volume 10, 2001 will be published in May 2002. $29.95 plus $3.95
shipping in the U.S., $4.95 shipping to Canada. For more information,
