Perennial Flower news
Hey guys:
I thought I would let my fellow garden writers list now of an exciting new
development. Valleybrook Gardens, Canada's premier supplier of herbaceous
perennial flowers made me an offer I simply couldn't refuse.:-)
Many of you will know of Valleybrook's "Heritage" Perennials - they're the
ones grown in square blue pots - in 1500 different varieties. While
Valleybrook is a wholesale nursery with no direct consumer sales, part of
my new job is to help you discover whatever you need to know about
perennials plants.
They needed somebody to work with customers and garden writers in the
Mid-Atlantic and Great Lakes States and I'm it. :-) Sort of a one-stop
shopping for perennial information.
I'll still be writing my syndicated column and books but I'll also be
offering fellow garden writers some special services related to perennial
flowers.
For example, if you need a speaker for a horticultural event, Valleybrook
is willing to pay my expenses to do the talk. You simply have to have one
of our dealers ask me to do it and involve them in arranging/ sponsoring
the event. If you're interested, I can provide you with the names of
dealers in your local area that carry the "Heritage" Perennials and can
work with both of you on this.
If you're in the trade, Valleybrook will also sponsor me to talk to trade
association meetings on a variety of retailing and business topics. I've
written about these things for the past twenty years in a variety of trade
magazine articles and am more than willing to share 23 years of retailing
experience.
Fellow Canadians will know John Valleau (he wrote the "Perennial Gardening
Guide" now in its third revision) - both John and I are now working
together to provide gardening information about our "Heritage" perennials
to you guys as well as our trade customers. In fact, if you go to
http://www.perennials.com (that's pretty easy to remember) you'll find one
of the best searchable databases of perennials on the Net.
I'll be in touch with other perennial news on a regular basis. And if you
need to contact me, you can still get me *offlist* at
dgreen@simplegiftsfarm.com until I figure out how to use my new valleybrook
address. ;-)
Doug
ps. I was at the nursery this past week and a few pots simply jumped into
my car and followed me home. I tried to stop them - I really did - but
they overpowered my gardening resistance. That double flowering primula
(in full bloom of course) simply didn't give me a chance.
Douglas Green,
