Re: I.D.

Nellie Neal,  Nice note.  It is nice to hear from somebody who ended up with 
a degree in language, then used personal experience and academic preparation 
to be a part of the green industry.  
In the Boston area we have little sound info in the mass communication media, 
but we've been lucky to have Northeast Weed Science Society, ISA, Amer. 
Rhodo. Soc. hold conferences in the area and there are many very active 
specialized plant societies here also.  One of the difficult things I've 
encountered is that people who have sufficient funds to pay people think 
garden maintenance is for mentally slow people, and people who must do it 
themselves have very expectations.  
I might end up doing a quasi PR sort of column for the local ConComm to try 
to build some sort of good will towards a group that has been seen as 
obstructionist and underinformed.

I'd especially like to hear from people in northern urban areas to hear about 
undesirable members of the plant kingdom that like neglected corners or just 
stuff that had been considered unusual.  Such as last year several friends 
reported finding healthy colonies of dodder.  I had not heard much about that 
for almost ten years.
