Re: Website for GWL: plans, issues, help wanted

I've been thinking this over and discussing it with some people offlist and here's what seems like the best thing with this bunch of individualists. Lawrence is/has set up a WIKI where we can all go and post items for the group - links, websites, articles, photos, whatever you want to put up. As material accumulates, it can be categorized and put on the website. Lawrence has agreed to do that, which is something we very much need since there has been one volunteer for this project so far, and no one who can actually write the website. So we do it this way. If you want to use the WIKI go to http://www.ibiblio.org/gwl-list/gwlwiki/index.php You should be able to figure out how to use it in just a minute or so.

That _will be_ the correct URL for the website and wiki, though the
website name has not been decided on yet. I will send in a request for the new website
account and wiki database account in a few minutes. My suggestion is:

The GWL Website URL:
http://www.ibiblio.org/gardenwriters
(this way you can use it for other things besides the gwl list and gwl wiki)
Alternatives include:
/gwl
/gwl-list

Someone let me know what you want quick so I can start work.

The GWL Wiki URL:

http://wwwibiblio.org/gardenwriters/gwlwiki/index.php

I totally agree with Barbara and Miranda. The purpose of the site is
not supposed to be commercial...it is supposed to be a tool for
    members, who are garden writers.

My suggestion is we first write a mission statement. That will
clarify what we want to do and how we plan on doing it. That way we
can refer back to the mission statement if we "accidently" get off
    track.
That's a great idea; I hope go ahead with the mission statement for
the website and the wiki. The wiki will be the most important resource for collecting and archiving photos
and will serve as an extremely convenient resource for gathering and gleaning resources to put into the website.
The website format I have online now in a temporary location is the one I plan to keep foi the long haul,
three colums containing distilled informationa and short links out to collections, websites, and expanded information
resources, lists, bibliographies, etc.
