Lost varieties

With the wealth of experience among the people of the GWL, I thought some
of you might be able to help with the following project.
T.V. Munson was one of the most important viticulturists and breeders of
the 19th and 20th centuries. The T.V. Munson Memorial Vineyard in Denison,
TX is trying to find grape varieties bred by Munson that have been lost over
the years. He bred over 300 varieties, but only about 100 have been found.
It occurred to me that the Japanese, with their love of fruit, might have
varieties that have been lost in this country. The problem is how to find
someone who can contact the right people to locate them.
Additionally, there may be some in obscure collections in the grape
growing regions of Europe.
The question is, does anyone on the list have information or contact with
horticulturists in any of those areas that might be able to help?
If you have any thoughts on this, please contact me offlist.
