Re: dumb, tired question


Why we don't like salad greens as they bolt:

Mostly because as the salad greens start to make seed the leaves become less 
tasty, sometimes downright bitter. Especially true with lettuce, less so with 
romaine, bad with mesclun since it's a miserable mixture of stuff that 
spilled on the floor when the seed co was filling seed packets.

Some don't change--dandelions stay about the same, Swiss chard just gets 
tough.
