Title: Re: [GWL] Looking for Sources on Native/Wild Roses
To my knowledge there is only a handful of roses—maybe a dozen, that are species native to this continent. Anything that has escaped cultivation and has provenance that go back to Marie Antoinette does not qualify. I would start with a very careful perusal of Hortus Third and take it from there. Once you have a list of species names you can look for growers in various parts of the country.
As for ‘wild roses’ the list there is long and composed of escapees and hybrids; to determine who or what they are would be a thorny task.
This sounds like a very interesting article.

A personal
favorite is http://www.heirloomroses.com
They have a huge selection. They also have a collection of species,
though I don't know if they offer the species in their catalog or not.
