Lorraine - you haven't offered the most important piece of information needed in order to answer your question. What is the final use?

That will determine how large your scans will need to be (in terms of file size), which will dictate the best method of storage. My recommendation is to (very quickly) abandon the idea of floppy storage. You will be tearing your hair out waiting for the images to load off of those dinosaurs, and that's assuming you can even get any images onto them in the first place.

If you aren't sure what the future use is going to be & want to just have them for any possible need, then you have to assume that you need to scan and store them at the highest possible resolution. That means your file sizes will be large, possibly 20-30 mb per image, or more. (I just finished burning a job to cd's with 100-150 mb files. I got 6-12 images on each 700 mb cd. That is not unusual. If I was using floppies I would not even get one image on a disc).

Upgrade. Get a new computer with lots and lots of memory. You won't regret it. Buy a scanner from a reputable manufacturer you know will be here in three or six years to service it. Nikon, Minolta & many others come to mind.
