Re: Do you grow the new Echinaceas? AND Flat Plant Sales

Sally, Was about to hit send anyway so here's one more! We grow them all
and have been for some years. Would be happy to share some of the more
unexpected performance differences we've found. My office 360.886.8253

I would also like to echo Gene's observations about the 'flat' forcast. This
was our first winter of shipping as well. Strange to bring in shipping staff
in January! Not sure if it's an actual trend or just some natural growth for
our little operation but spring orders look very strong. It holds hope that
small independents can hold their ground as the big boxes keep chewing up
real estate like 'F5' Hoovers.
Of the 11 independents in my area six years ago, only 2 of us are left. For
me, to stay in business as a small nursery, it became necessary to
supplement with mail order and grow mostly unusual, hard to find varieties
that 'They' don't carry.

Thanks for visiting the farm!

Subject: [GWL] Do you grow the new Echinaceas?

Anybody growing newer coneflower cultivars out there? Working on a magazine
piece and would love to find 2 or 3 gardeners with firsthand experience for
a few short quotes about how you like the plants, what you combine them
with, and what your regional growing conditions are.

If you have grown the new warmer-colored coneflower cvs---the Itsaul Big Sky
series ('Sundown', 'Twilight', 'Harvest Moon', etc) or the Chicago Botanic
Gdn introductions ('Art's Pride'/'Orange Meadowbrite' etc)---or if you have
grown any of the E. purpurea cvs with a different slant, such as
'Doubledecker', I'd love to hear from you; just drop an email to me at
sallyroth16@hotmail.com and I'll get in touch with specifics.

Don't worry, no lengthy intervew; just a few brief questions, maybe 10, 15
minutes of your time. Unless we get to talking.... Okay, okay, I promise
I'll be good, and not get off on a tangent. Well, I'll try not to, anyhow.

No $ involved, just a possible mention followed by fame and glory leading to
adulation in your hometown and then your own reality TV show LOL. I can see
it now---the marquee, the limo, the paparazzi (how *do* you spell that),
Brad and Angelina, Bill and Melissa, and of course Lindsay Lohan, all
saying, Oh yes, we're old friends. Because, hey, you're the next hot thing.
Wait, what was that about digressing?? Okay, get the hook....

Seriously, please get in touch if you love or hate the new coneflowers, or
even if you find them ho-hum.

Thanks a million,
Sally
