On that note, I recently had an interesting (and ultimately successful) experience with Amazon that will certainly contribute to my customer loyalty.
I purchased a mini-drive through Amazon's marketplace. It came from a third party in Northern California (I am in Southern CA) and when it arrived, it looked to be slightly mis-engineered as it didn't fit the card I purchased it for.
I emailed the vendor directly and waited. A week passed and I heard nothing.
I contacted Amazon customer service (they have a new system where enter your phone number and click a button that says "call me." The phone rings automatically, putting you in a queue to speak with a customer service rep). I explained the problem and the customer service rep asked if I wanted to make a claim - which I did.
The claim is part of Amazon's A-Z guarantee (or something like that) where they guarantee the item or your full money back.
Once I made the claim, I heard back from the vendor almost immediately. He was pretty rude, but I did hear from him. He sent me an RMA and I returned the item. So I don't have a defective item and I have a full refund.
With this kind of guarantee, I am much more likely to go through Amazon for future purchases - especially for large dollar item purchases like a camera.

Tom is probably aware of this, but you need to be wary of the very cheapest offer out there. Horror stories abound about people who lost their money or it took forever to get it back after a disreputable vendor with a bargain price took advantage of them. At the very least cheap prices usually equateto no USA warranty. -- Larry Maupin Maupin Photography Freelance Garden Writer/Photographer Member, Garden Writers Assoc.
