Re: Recommendations on website designer?
I used to use DreamWeaver to design my website. It was frustrating because there were some things it allowed me to do, and other things that it wouldn't. I couldn't make the website look like I wanted it to look. I complained about it to my 20-something son who is in that business, and he said "I don't use that type of software - I just write code." Fresh kid. Because I had to struggle with DreamWeaver every time I wanted to change my site, I didn't update if very often.
Then one day I said on the radio that it was my New Year's resolution to update my website, and I got an email from a woman who is a gardener and someone who can write code. I hired her (Terry Gavin tmgavin@verizon.net ) and have never looked back. I pay her $60. per hour. It cost me about $500. for the initial site set up, and she followed my wishes for the design and layout. It usually takes her less than a half hour to update and add new pages, articles etc at this point and I think it's worth every penny.
I also designed a website for a non-profit where I'm on the board, and used the templates from Network Solutions where our URL is hosted. It is easy to use, and within one day we had a site (www.BarnstableEducationFoundation.org) that could take donations, have multiple mailboxes and signup/contact forms. But it too is limiting - I cannot, for example, wrap text around a photograph with their software.
all the best,
C.L.
