Re: Path to a literary agent...
Good morning Billy,
I did A and B as you mentioned and started the query process. I sent out a
lot of queries. It is probable that my book was not marketable to a larger
market. So it goes, eh. (Canadian version of Kilgore Trout's saying.)
I eventually went the self-publish route to see if I could actually make
money. I did. Not a lot, but the time spent on the book was compensated more
than my pay at my day job. Btw, the support I received from members on this
list was absolutely phenomenal.
The point of me sending this e-mail (recognising that there are many
successful authors on this list who are far more qualified than I) is that,
since sending out those queries to "recognised publishing houses", I have
been and continue to be deluged with offers for self-publishing from
companies I had never heard of. At least once a day over the past year;
several are very persistent. So, Billy, be prepared for that.
It has just occurred to me, (as a secondary point) that those nice people
wanting to help me self-publish might be lurkers on this list. So, from me
to you, "Please stop, already."
Good Luck Billy
Dan
