Subject: Re: alstroemeria

I haven't tried alstroemeria myself, but recall a story from David Smith,
retired director of horticulture at White Flower Farm (Zone 5, Litchfield,
CT). He used to field grow a crop, and told me the secret was to plant very
deep -- a foot or more. He was astonished that people found the plant iffy,
because he had such good success. This was 20-plus years ago, when we still
had real winters, with serious lows. (Thermometer hit -25F one memorable
winter in the late '80s.) Usually had a good snow cover, too, which probably
also helped.

Cheers,
