Garden Design Demise

When it comes to newspapers and magazines advertising pays the bills. Unfortunately in the garden industry, with the exception of Scotts Miracle Gro, few companies do any national advertising. And as we all know, advertisers in general are looking for the youth market. Do the math. Last year I had the opportunity to talk to several magazine editors and to a person they were lamenting that their lifestyle magazines, once known for their still popular gardening sections, were being cut back. Check out Martha Stewart Living and Better Homes and Gardens. CEOs could care less about what the public wants - if it doesn't generate income it's gone. That does not bode well for those of us who make your living writing for newspapers and magazines. The January edition of Better Homes and Gardens was shockingly thin.

I bought a new Mac, new Mac Office, an IPad and upgraded my HughesNet to Gen4. I needed to do this to effectively work on the internet. I who swore I would never tweet am jumping in with both feet. I just wish to hell I had Jeff Ball here to lead me through this puzzle. Thank god for those cute young guys at the genius bar at the Apple store.
