Sorry about not staying up to date. It's been a bit hectic around here.

Doreen was released from the hospital about a week ago. They got the
infection under control. I thought she would be sent upstairs to the Mercy
rehab center, but it was full. So I had to do a frantic search for another
facility. I found one in Beloit, a small town just north of the Illinois /
Wisconsin border. To my surprise, this place has a great reputation for
getting people back on their feet, no matter what.

She has now been at Beloit Health and Rehabilitation Center for a week. She
is still very weak, but yesterday, she almost made it standing up with the
parallel bars. (A lot of people have trouble staying upright in bars). She
cannot get herself out of bed yet, but every day, they bring in a crane
like device to hoist her out of bed, swing her around, and into a wheel
chair. I kid her about having her ass in a sling. Not to mention being a
real swinger.

They are hoping to have her up on a walker by the weekend. She has twice
daily physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and mental
exercises. Like I said, this facility gets things done. The building looks
sort of run down, and the rooms are Spartan. But this is a boot camp, not a
catering resort. They put their money into equipment and good personnel,
not flash. I'm not easily impressed, but I am with this place. I wish she
had been there during the previous illness. She would have been stronger,
and more able to fight off the recent infection.

There are no phones in the rooms (to encourage people to get up and go to
the phones at the central console area). Her cell phone is 1-815-218-5602.

I'll try to keep this updated. It should be easier now that things are
settling down.
