I just handled a question off list that makes me offer this reminder to the
members of GWL.  We are coming up on Flower Garden Shows and Home and Garden
Shows all over the country - February into April.  Virtually all of them
will give a garden writer a press pass and free entry.  If you are a member
of GWAA, your membership card says "Press" on it.  If you are not yet a
member of that august organization you can still probably hustle a press
pass; your line is something like - "I'm working on a possible feature for
the local newspaper", or "I'm doing an article for a national magazine about
Flower Shows", or "I'm doing a book on gardening information sources", or
something of similar creativity.  It's best not to laugh as you are giving
out your line (grin).  For the record, all GWAA members have free entrance
to virtually all public botanical gardens in the country since we are
talking about freebies.  The same press pass routine works for nurserymen's
trade shows around the country.  The Mid Am is in Chicago this week I think.
