I am surprised no one has mentioned my favorite, The Well-Tended Perennial Garden by Tracy DiSabato-Aust. The directions for growing, cutting back, propagating are excellent. It is informative, entertaining and gorgeous. Next to Dirr's Manual of Woody Landscape Plants, The Well-Tended Perennial Garden comes off my bookshelf most frequently.
