Cambridge, MA, January 8, 2002 - Northern Light® Technology, LLC, ( www.northernlight.com ), a leading provider of search and content integration solutions for enterprises, today announced it is refining its business to focus more exclusively on the needs of enterprise customers. As of January 16, 2002, the company will no longer be providing free Web search capabilities to the general public. Northern Light's Special Collection™, an online business library of over 70 million pages of full-text, authoritative content from more than 7,100 sources will continue to be offered to enterprise customers and to the public from Northern Light's Web site. Additionally, the company will offer Web searching to enterprise customers. Northern Light will continue to maintain and update its index of more than 350 million Web pages to provide enterprise customers with search of the Web using Northern Light's patented classification technology, and will continue offering custom Web searching for enterprise customers. None of the more than 100 custom Web-crawls running for Northern Light's enterprise customers will be affected by the discontinuation of free public access to the Northern Light Web index.

This move allows the company to lower the cost of maintaining a public Web site and concentrate on the resources on the company's core businesses in search and content integration solutions for enterprises, and authoritative news and archive content for enterprises and the public.

"Over the past year, Northern Light has seen booming demand for search, classification, taxonomy, and content solutions from our enterprise customers and marketing partners. Indeed, our sales bookings in the quarter ending in December 2001 were double the previous quarter. Meanwhile, the business model for free, advertising-supported, public Web search has not been developing for us. We made a strategic decision to discontinue free public access to our Web search in order to focus resources and investment on those parts of our business that are growing rapidly," said David Seuss, CEO of Northern Light Technology.
