Re: [GWL]: Scientific journals
As a post script, I asked my husband what it costs him to publish
scientific papers these days. He says that journals that have a per
page charge (not all do), have flat rates that run $50 to $100 per
page. So if a paper is 10 pages, it costs the scientist $1000 - not
very much money when you compare it to ad rates. If the magazine's
goal was to make money off the people who submit papers, they are
doing a pretty poor job of it....

PS This practice is so well established in the scientific community
that grant budgets include publication costs which means that the
money does not come out of the scientists' pockets or the pockets of
the institution where he/she works
