I so appreciate the ongoing discussion about agents and royalties and 
publishers.  Thank you to those more experienced writers for being 
willing to share that information with the rest of us.

Now I have a related question regarding royalties -- When I go to the 
"big  box" stores (Costco, etc.) they have a small selection of 
garden books, typically Sunset Western Gardens (I am in California), 
Botanica and others.  What I wonder is, in that kind of high volume 
situation, what happens to the debate over big advance/royalties?  do 
you sell enough to make royalties more significant than the advance?
