Bonnie Appleton down at Virginia Tech actually did some of this a few years 
ago (more than a few I suppose but then again, yesterday was a few years 
ago to me)  Some were printed in the Quill and Trowel (including the gravel 
on the bottom of the pot one).

Every now and then I'll write a myths article on some aspect or other of 
gardening - and get a few notes back from readers.  My favourite is when I 
write about not rolling your lawn because of the soil compaction problems 
it creates and I get irate letters from guys who've been rolling for years. :-)

I have one such mulch myths (these whoppers were actually printed in a 
Canadian gardening magazine a year ago) posted at 
http://www.gardenbrew.com  you'll have to click under articles to bring up 
the article listing.  The lawn rolling one is there as well.
