Landscape Ontario has been working to develop professional certification in what they have called "interiorscaping." Perhaps contacting them at www.landscapeontario.com can get some ideas for the technical stuff, i.e. salinity, mineralisation of soils, pH balances, humidity control, lighting sources etc. As far as plants go, just about any good nursery or garden centre will have staff that can talk about plants.
