What do you recommend for slide scanning? What do you think of batch loaders?
I might add to James Allison's thorough answer that we use Kodak PhotoCD service for most of our quantity processing when we want to send out for 100 scans at a time and have time to wait for the normal lab turn-around. We find the PhotoCD relatively easy to batch process to equalize levels, adding watermark, etc. Then the processed images are stored in the computer (and backed up), the original PhotoCD remains the"master" back-up.
