photo watermarking

Saxon Holt's last post brings up a question. Which water marking software
do you think is best, if you use water marking? If not, what are you using
for security?
There are a number of proprietary watermarking systems that embed digital code as watermarks into images. This allows the photographer to send out internet "crawlers" to find unauthorized photo use. I used Digimarc for a while but found it too expensive.

Now I simply use PhotoShop to overlay my name and copyright notice as text on each photo I post to the web. If anyone wants to download any of my images they have to take the text with it. In fact I invite anyone to download my images with my name embedded. They are not big enough to be used in any publication and for professional use it keeps my name on the layout and selection process. As soon as someone want to use and pay for a photo I can send the original or a clean scan.

I am not worried nor do I have the time to worry about casual copyright infringement by students doing homework papers or some two bit hacker who might take the trouble to steal a little web photo. And If I DID find out, there are any number of legal precedents to retroactively go after damages.
