This is quite wonderful, thank you. Several years ago I was in Fujian
province in China and one of their art forms is the carving of large
narcissus bulbs. With a nick here and a slice and dice there wonderful
predictable distortions occur. There is the phoenix rising, the garden
basket, the crab and doubtless many others. It was December and everywhere
we went we saw these bulbs in flower and had the opportunity to see a master
demonstrate his technique. The things people do that are simply beautiful
ephemera.
