Re: Bad News Gardens are back?[xwall-bcc][xwall-faked-from][xwall-mx]

Sad to say, Michigan Bulb Company is alive and well, operating out of a
new location by new owners who bought the name for a dime when the
company's owners put MBC and all of the 12+ tradestyles operating under
the Foster & Gallagher parent company out of business in 2001. I doubt
Gardener's Choice is one and the same. Its most likely a spin-off by
some hort folks who lost their job in this dreaded economy and are
spiraling to great lengths to feed their families and keep their
mortgages intact at any cost.

Subject: [GWL] Bad News Gardens are back?
[xwall-bcc][xwall-faked-from][xwall-mx]

Thought I posted this last night but it seems to have
evaporated...here's
the second try:

I thought we'd gotten rid of the likes of the Michigan Bulb Company
years
ago...but it looks like it may have been reincarnated as Gardeners'
Choice.

I was looking at an advertising insert in the New York Times and
there's
this advert for "An Everblooming Hedge Packed With Thousands of
Flowers!"
referred to as Siberian Lavender. The ad goes on to say "...Plus the
delicate scent
of lavender perfume...." Ever heard of it? Neither had I so I Googled
the
name and the first hit was a 2002 notice from an Illinois extension
agent
about the bogus claims. The plant is actually Perovskia atripicifolia
which
is mispelled in the 2002 ad and agian in the 2006 ad as perovskia
atripliafolia. Looks like a simple cut and paste job. Their online ad
at
_http://www.gardenerschoice.net/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=98_

describes the plant
quite differently and even says it's also known as Russian Sage with an
"
uplifting sage-like fragrance". Quiet a different story, yes?

Please, tell your readers the truth. Bad, even false advertising like
this
hurts all of us in the gardening world. If you know how to contact the

executives at the parent company of Gardeners' Choice please do so and
let us know
who they are. Unfortunatly I think I know or remember the history.
