Re: adaptive tools

Kate, each person's limitation is different from the next. It would
be ideal if a lending library carried an assortment of tools for
people suddenly faced with limitations to try, and see what would be
best to buy, but no such thing exists in my area, at least. I garden
from the seat of a Celebrity Victory electric scooter (I'm an
above-knee amputee), and use mostly conventional tools. Very useful
to me is a trake (trowel at one end, 3-pronged rake at the other)
that I bought at the dollar store years ago because it fits nicely in
the bicycle basket on my scooter, and the flexible "tubtrugs" (so
named by Gardeners Supply) are very useful to me. A.M. Leonard sells
adaptive hand tools, but I've not used any of them. I use a locally
made tool that's a variation of a stirrup hoe made as a hand tool for
weeding. Corona makes some extendable tools (rake, trowel, etc.)
that work pretty well. Check my website at
www.margaretlauterbach.com and recommend it if you like for people
with limited mobility. Margaret Lauterbach
