Re: clivia

One advantage of living in a cool climate is that one can often
persuade South African natives to flower twice (or more) in the year.
Most of the year my clivias live in the shade of the low walls of my
unheated south facing conservatory and are ignored. Every so often I
bring one into the warmth of the living room and feed and water it.
It promptly flowers. After flowering it goes back into the cool and
dry. Later in the year when the conservatory has got too warm the
north facing glazed back porch gets substituted as a permanent home.
At the moment there are two which flowered before Christmas still in
the living room because the foliage looks so good and two more just
brought into the warmth at Christmas which are already showing the
first signs of budding up. A most generous plant.
