Re: Compost

re rats- and other rodents
I grew up on a farm
Rats will get into anything they really want to; they will chew through the
hardest plastic, up to 6" of concrete (our granary) and through steel mesh
(my composter).

There is one method of rat control- and the reason for this post- that I
wish people wouldn't use- "seeding" the compost with an anti-coagulant
component. I'm hesitant to use a proprietary name on the list.

The rats munch on this, become weakened, and then get caught by the
neighbourhood cats, who will eventually die. We lost one treasured pet this
way and others in our neighbourhood had the same unfortunate circumstance
with their pets. The person who was doing it, didn't realise the seriousness
until his dog became ill- recovered, thankfully.

Traps work.
