Master Gardeners
I didn't see the original post on master gardeners, but I wanted to clarify a common misconception about the term: it's not an educational title but a volunteer/service designation.
Master gardeners do not have horticulture degrees (well, some of us might, but not as part of the master gardener program), nor do we present ourselves as knowing everything there is to know about gardening.
The master gardener program does provide some basic training, but it is primarily a VOLUNTEER program. You need to recertify every year to maintain active status.
That means, if you see a master gardener doing hands-on work, giving out information at a booth, leading a tour group, being a docent, or otherwise active in the community, that person is there as a private citizen volunteering his or her time to the community.
