Re: where is the blog site on Gardenweb
If anybody is interested in putting together a system such as GardenVoices -
drop me a note offlist. I have some server space and we can do something
fairly quickly to get it up and running again - in some format. I have no
idea what a monetization model would be because as I understand it, that
section was a totally underperformer when it came to making money. But if
enough folks wanted to review their favorite blogs posts and share those in
some way, I can make it happen.
And that's a roll into a possible future role for the editorial function.
Alltop did it one way by picking individual sites - this system could do it
by picking individual posts. But neither have a monetization model at this
time. What it is called is bootstrapping an idea to own the niche - to
become a human edited system that becomes the standard by which everything
else is judged. So no money but perhaps fame. LOL! But I think (at first
glance) there are options here once it's up and running with readership
beyond what existed.
I can provide the back-end, the support and a way to make it happen. I can
also provide explorations into the monetization of this kind of thing and
future directions of technology and communication channels. I can provide
an admin structure to make it happen and explore the issues with the group
around important decisions. I can't provide editorial function (finding
and reviewing posts). If some of you (as many as possible to lighten the
load) want to play around with the idea, contact me offlist. If enough are
interested, I'll set it up and we can be running pretty quickly.
Off the top of my head - this is an example of how fast things can move on
the Net. A problem occurs and we can form a working team - jump in and set
up an alternate system of publishing. We then revise and sort out the
issues and continue to make things work better for our readers and industry.
We bootstrap this into success (or find a blind alley in which to plant our
noses) :-) When you think about it, it's pretty exciting.
Let me know offlist.
All the best
Doug
