Re: Making meaning through gardening article ideas
Lois,
I'm glad to see your blog and hear about your coaching practice. At my blog, Whole Life Gardening, I've been making that connection from the garden to life for a couple of years now. Truthfully, it's an uphill climb. I have many devoted readers, but many others who stop by for garden advise and move on when they see a mix that's more spiritual, philosophical, thoughtful and creatively whimsical than they're looking for.
I've found that I need to bring this approach through the back door, as it were, and people are continually surprised. I've given sermons in several churches on this theme, and upon hearing that "The Garden Lady" is going to be in the pulpit, there are always people who come with notebook and pen so that they can "take notes on gardening tips and advice". I aim to touch their hearts and their funny bone enough so that they don't go away disappointed, and this usually works.
So basically I'd say that I take the practical questions from my radio or speaking audiences, and those from consultation clients, and sneak in the other stuff before they know what's happening. Usually, they respond well.
I remember what Pema Chodron said in one of her books: "You start where you are," and I start where they are.
all the best,
C.L.

Subject: [GWL] Making meaning through gardening article ideas
Hi Everyone,
I'm writing an article on why people might hire a gardener coach (not
garden coach) as part of the ramp up for launching my coaching practice,
Cultivating the Inner Gardener.
I'm interested in learning what kinds of questions you (or your
readers/listeners) might have. Link to
http://cultivatingtheinnergardener.blogspot.com for more details, but to
summarize, I'll be working with people who are interested in learning how
to change the way they approach the gardening process so that it is more
meaningful, how to express their personalities and creativity through
their gardens, how body/mind/spirit plays itself out in their gardening
activities, how to restore meaning to their gardening efforts, and how to
revitalize a cherished pastime.
Your comments are welcome.
Regards,
Lois
