Introductions to the Group.
Hi everyone,
I just joined the "gardenwriters" mailing list this morning and have been enjoying reading all of the interesting suggestions for garden thugs. Doreen asked that I introduce myself. I am the Marketing and Media Relations Manager for Brookside Gardens, a 50-acre public garden just north of Washington, DC. I have been a member of GWA for three years.
In case you aren't familiar with Brookside Gardens, I invite you to visit our website and learn about some of the programming and events we offer. The aim of our programs is to educate visitors about effective and innovative resources that they can incorporate into their gardening practices. One such program is our annual Green Matters Symposium. This year's topic is "Food for Thought" and will focus attention on the importance of a local food economy and the impact locally- and sustainably- produced food can have on the environment, human health and well-being, and the surrounding community. Best-selling author, Anna Lappé is one of the featured speakers.
This symposium also kicks-off a three-year theme for the Gardens that will focus on food: how we gardeners can grow, cook and eat food that is fresh, nutritious and delicious. We will be planting demonstration gardens and incorporating ornamental edible plants into our displays. I'm sure this will present some challenges we never expected. It should be a fun and interesting few years.
Below is the link to "Food for Thought" if you are interested in learning more. Early bird registration ends January 15th.
