Betty I hear you about software incompatibility. It's a pain for sure. What's happening in the industry is the creation of walled gardens - two competing publishing models and economic models. This means that authors / publishers either decide to work in one or both but there's a cost to do so obviously. In my case, I'm running a full mac setup now and it works on both "gardens". The issue is what consumers will want and whether we'll provide a single option or multiple options. And indeed whether there's any money in enhanced ebooks at the current suggested selling price. Interesting development for sure.
The only way I could make it work was to upgrade to Lion and add as much ram as this old system could take. New computer on the horizon to replace this 4 year old Mac "soon".
