Re: Jim Cothran, author landscape architect passed away Sunday, Jan 28
Mary
Thank you for posting that information. Jim was a wonderful historian and I
talked to him several times when I was in Roswell restoring Barrington
Hall.
Ironically I just ordered 2 of his books from Amazon to replace two that
were lost in the move.

Very sad and sudden news of our dear friend, Jim Cothran: author,
landscape
architect and professor, who passed away Sunday, Jan 28. Jim had a sudden
attack of lung cancer that was so swift that within less than five days of
its diagnosis, he left us. Jim is well known for his *Gardens of Historic
Charleston*, *Historic Plants of the Antibellum South* and most recently,
the *Charleston Gardens of Loutrell Briggs*. I will send a better obituary
when it is released. Jim was chief of landscape architecture and planning
at Robert and Company, Atlanta. He was 72.
A memorial service is planned at the Cherokee Garden Library in Atlanta on
Friday or Saturday, February 3 or 4. Jim was the Acquisitions Chair for
decades.
Respectfully submitted,
