Asking Permission

Saxon Holt makes an excellent point about Heronswood and asking permission
to use any slides shot there commercially. Many places do prohit photos for
various reasons, and Saxon says that Dan Hickley is planning a book with
photos of his gardens. So he does not want the gardens diminished
commerically by all us GWAA members shooting and selling slides of his
plants. That is very understandable.

When GWAA was in Boston in 1997, the same situation arose with the Victory
Garden. They, too, did not want commerical explotation of the gardens by
photographers. I did ask and receive permission to use slides I shot for
presentations I did for various garden clubs. The point is that I asked.
We have to remember that some gardens are revenue generators for their
owners, including the photography rights. Just my humble opinion.
