asking permission

Certain plant combinations and even certain individual plants can reveal
a sense of place. Certain plant combinations can exist only in certain
places (I will never forget the Agave / Sequioia combination at
Lotusland in Santa Barbara. It took me three visits before I could take
a picture and begin figure out what the heck was going on in that place.)

Certain plants only exist in certain places. Rose hybridizers will
often display new roses before they are available - and would certainly
want to be credited if a picture from their nursery were published.

So the permission thing can be murky. I have run into designers great
and small who think their plant combibnations are unique. Even some
public places expect credit sometimes. Rather than judge their opinion,
it is easier in the long run (thinking of careers and good professional
relationships) to honor their opinion and always get permission.
