Re: re: asking permission

Thanks Rob Cardillo for adding more information. BTW, Rob is an
accomplished photographer who was responsible the wonderful photography that
graced Organic Gardening for years. His work often is on the cover of
Country Living Gardener, and he recently had a show that gathered wonderful
reviews.

A bit more about asking permission. Some botanical gardens prohibit
professional photographers, and I always thought that was stupid. Most of
these gardens rely on public donations or are funded by taxes. When I
approached the director of one such garden in Wisconsin and explained that I
would credit the garden, which would enhance their image, he changed the
policy. He said he never thought about what good exposure such photography
would give the gardens. It pays to ask and gently persuade.

Rob, I used Fuji 400 when I shot the Music Gardens in Toronto, and the
slides came out great. They blow up well, and I've sold several shots over
and over. Of course, every magazine has their standards, and the ones I
sold to are probably not as exacting as some of the slicks.
