Those of you who may be well acquainted with the U.S. seed industry might like to know that Howard Bodger, President of John Bodger and Sons (Bodger Seed Co.) of El Monte and Lompoc, California died June 19, 2003. He had suffered a stroke a few days previously.
Howard was the grandson of the founder of the company, John Bodger, and had been with the company since 1947 when he returned from the service.
Bodger is one of the few seed companies still producing flower seeds in the U.S., and is best known for introductions such as Blue Danube Ageratum, Magic Fountains Delphinium, Marigold Galore, Gold Coins, and Space Age and many petunia introductions over the years.
Howard had been active in the company up until his death. He was 82 years old. He is survived by his wife Pat, and two children Jack, who operates Environmental Seed Producers, a daughter Susan, and seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
